Charts Icon

To access a Chart, you can either enter the trading code of an asset in the Classic area of the Live Tab and select 'Chart', or via the Chart icon on your Desktop Toolbar. You can also bring it up by clicking on the link displayed in a Live Search, WatchList or News Filter, if your default action is 'Chart'.

There are two types of chart layouts - System Layouts and User Layouts. System Layouts are read-only and visible to everyone. User Layouts are ones you have created yourself, and are visible only to you.

Each charting layout functions for both Daily and Intra-Day data. TurboTrader offers a handful of default templates, which can be selected from the Chart drop-down menu by hovering over the Chart icon. By default, the Candlesticks with Volume chart is displayed.

Usage

A Daily Chart, showing the HTML 5 charting overlay

Export Button You can save the displayed chart by clicking the Export button in the top-right of the chart window. This will open the image in a new window of your browser, allowing you to save it as you would any other image.

Go Button You can enter a trading code into the text box in the top right. Pressing Enter or clicking the Go button (shown left) will search for a matching asset. By default, an exact match will switch to that asset, but you can force a broader search by holding down Ctrl or Shift when pressing Enter or clicking Go. This will bring up a search window with matches again both code and name, letting you select the asset you desire.

Refresh Button Charts can be refreshed by pressing the Refresh button (shown left).

See also: Window Grouping for how to link this to any other Single-Asset window.

Time Intervals

By default, all subscribers can view daily charts, which also displays a 'fake' candle show today's current price movement relative to the historical values. This candle will update automatically once a minute for Dynamic Data subscribers. Static Data subscribers will need to refresh manually.

For subscribers who purchase the Advanced Charting Tools extra, you gain access to multiple different time intervals, both historical and intra-day. Historical data can be aggregated into Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly records. Intra-Day is available in 1, 5, 15, 30 and 60 minute records.

Intra-Day charts are dynamically updated every minute for Dynamic Data subscribers, but must be refreshed manually for Static Data subscribers.

Chart Overlay

For subscribers using a HTML 5 capable browser, we draw a dynamic overlay showing the underlying chart values. Hover your mouse over a candle to see the date, prices, and the value of any indicators.

To just display a horizontal line to enable comparison with other points on a chart, move the cursor vertically along the axis labels on the right-hand side.

Note: This feature requires a HTML 5 capable browser, and is not available for Internet Explorer 9 and below.

Custom Layouts and Indicators

The Indicator Configuration window for Bollinger Bands

For subscribers who have purchased the Advanced Charting Tools extra, it is possible to customise your chart layouts with new or altered indicators.

Edit Icon To begin customising a chart, click the 'Edit' button displayed in the top-right of the chart, below the search box. This will display the Chart Indicators toolbar.

Note: This feature requires a HTML 5 capable browser, and is not available for Internet Explorer 9 and below.

Adding Indicators

To add a new indicator, hover over the appropriate category and then click the indicator to add. If it is not already a part of your layout, the indicator will appear on the chart, and the Indicator Configuration window will appear. If you already have this indicator and can add multiple versions of it to your chart, the Select Indicator window will appear. In this case, click the Create New Indicator link.

Editing Indicators

To edit an existing indicator, click the appropriate indicator from the Chart Indicators toolbar. The Indicator Configuration window will appear, allowing you to change settings such as colouring, time periods, the type of moving average to use, and more.

When this window is active, the indicator you've selected will be highlighted in the chart with a glowing background, allowing you to identify which indicator it is.

Apply Icon When you're satisfied with your changes, click the Apply button (shown left) to update the displayed indicator.

Editing Colours

The chart indicator colours can be specified. If you have a capable browser (e.g. Opera) then you get a colour selector, otherwise need to know the colour number, e.g. #00FF00 is green

See the Wikipedia List of colors (Use the "Hex triplet" column).

Removing Indicators

Delete Icon To remove an indicator from your layout, go through the actions of adding an indicator again (even though it is already there). This raises its configuration window, where there is a Delete button. Remember to then save your chart layout when finished adding and deleting indicators.

Managing Layouts

Save Icon To save a custom layout, click the save icon (shown left) on either the window header or from the drop-down menu. The Save Chart Layout window will appear, allowing you to enter a name and description of the layout you've created. Clicking the Save button will update an existing layout (if you opened one), and Save As will save a new layout.

You can also use this to update the name or description of a layout, simply by opening it and using the 'Save' button from the Save Chart Layout window.

Delete Icon To delete an existing layout, open it and then select the Delete icon (shown left) from the drop-down menu. Click 'Delete' in the confirmation window, or 'Keep' if you've changed your mind.

Default Targeting

Window Menu If you would like this window to be the default target when you click an Asset Code inside a Live Search, WatchList or Portfolio Status, look to the menu.

Default Button From there, select the Make Default item. The default target will apply to all windows that are part of the Group.

Drag-and-Drop

Like all Single-Asset windows, Charts can receive any Asset in order to display its details. The purple bar is also a draggable object, allowing you to drag it onto any window that accepts an Asset - Asset Details, Course of Trades, Market Depth, or News Filters - as well as onto a WatchList or Portfolio Status that is showing a Like list.

Charts themselves are draggable objects from the toolbar. You can drag the icon itself onto any other Single-Asset window, which will bring up the default chart for the targeted Asset, or you can drag any of the individual buttons onto an existing Chart to use that Chart template instead.

Charts can also receive a dragged Asset Details, Course of Trades, Market Depth, or News Filters icon from the toolbar. If the window is docked, this will cause a new window to open with the dragged type, targeted to the Asset being displayed. If the window is floating, the Chart will be replaced by the type that was dragged.
