A Live Search, showing one of the preset Movers searches

One of TurboTrader's most powerful features is the Live Search. It allows you to apply your search criteria to the market in real-time, and watch the action as it happens.

Searching the Market

Search Icon To access a Live Search, you can either open one directly from the Classic area under the Live Tab, or via the Search icon on your Desktop Toolbar.

There are two types of Live Searches - System Searches, and User Searches. System Searches are ones everyone has access to that we believe are useful - things like Market Movers and Indices. User Searches are ones you have created yourself, and are visible only to you.

By default, we provide you with a set of basic Searches to start off with.

The Basic Tutorial explains how searching works, how to customise the default searches, and how to create new ones.

Learn how searches operate by looking behind-the-scenes for those pre-prepared system searches. Configure your own additional searches. See some explanations and Example Searches.

This window consumes 10 Session Points when used by a Dynamic Data subscriber, or one Static View per refresh when viewed by a Static Data subscriber.

Window Menu Searches can be configured from the window menu icon (shown on the left). Select 'Configure Search' to bring up the Search Configuration window, which will display either the Basic or Advanced editor depending on your selection in Live Settings.

A Search's Table Layout may also be modified by selecting 'Configure Layout' from the same menu.

Basic Editor

Basic Search Editor The basic search editor allows you to select from a number of template searches, and configure their parameters.

Select a template from the drop-down at the top, and then enter the desired values in the search parameters area. When you're satisfied, click Apply to alter the search settings. If these are to your liking, remember to click the save button on the Search, otherwise your changes will not last.

Advanced Editor

Advanced Search Editor The advanced search editor allows you to modify the precise criteria used to describe your search. You can select from hundreds of different data fragments to filter on, and perform complex logic using criteria grouping.

You can also customise the search controls displayed along the top bar of a search, allowing you to rapidly tweak the display of your search.

See the page Advanced Search Editor for more information

Managing Searches

Save Icon To save a Live Search, click the save icon (shown left) on either the window header or from the drop-down menu. The Save Live Search window will appear, allowing you to enter a name and description of the search you've created. Clicking the Save button will update an existing search (if you opened one), and Save As will save a new search.

You can also use this to update the name or description of a search, simply by opening it and using the 'Save' button from the Save Live Search window. If you've selected a different layout to be used for this Search (and saved the layout), this layout will be used the next time you open that Search.

Delete Icon To delete an existing Live Search, open it and then select the Delete icon (shown left) from the drop-down menu. Click 'Delete' in the confirmation window, or 'Keep' if you've changed your mind.

Searches themselves are draggable objects from the toolbar. You can drag the icon itself, which will create a blank search, or you can drag any of the individual buttons onto a Live Session window containing an existing Search, WatchList, or Portfolio Status.

Individual rows in the search are also draggable objects. You can drag them to any window that accepts an Asset - Asset Details, Course of Trades, Market Depth, Charts, or News Filters - as well as onto a WatchList or Portfolio Status that is showing a Like list.
